Entrepreneur in the Triad – Kira Wood of Jolie Boudoir

In today’s Entrepreneur in the Triad blog, I get to showcase an amazing female entrepreneur. I’ve known Kira Wood, of Jolie Boudoir, for awhile and have always admired not only her business ethic, but how her services empower women. Her boudoir photography helps remind woman of how beautiful they are and provide much needed pampering in their busy schedules! Read on to learn more about life as an entrepreneur for Kira!

Meet Kira

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

“I’ve wanted to be an artist for as long as I can remember. I don’t remember being stuck on a certain genre, but I know it was an artist.”

What is your favorite part about being an entrepreneur?

“I love making my own schedule and setting my own boundaries. As a mother of two small kids, this allows me flexibility to be present for them when needed.”

How is writing important in your business or as an entrepreneur?

“Writing is so important within my brand. Making sure I am expressing my true self through my words is very important. The verbiage on all my social media accounts is also so important and sometimes I get really stuck.”

How do you overcome obstacles that being an entrepreneur throws at you?

“I overcome those obstacles by asking my business coach and peers for guidance. Being an entrepreneur usually means you are working alone, and you are the one your client goes to when they are unhappy. Having support is the best!”

What is one piece of advice you would give future entrepreneurs?

“Ask for advice and guidance from someone in your field that is where you hope to be. Also, know that building your business and reputation takes time. Don’t expect success overnight. It takes time and consistency.”

What does being an entrepreneur mean to you?

“It means freedom. I have freedom on how I express myself, my work schedule, and how I want to run my business. It is freedom from the typical 9-5 job.”

How do you manage to wear all the hats an entrepreneur is required to wear? Do you have tips for staying organized?

“I set boundaries with my time. I find making a set schedule and using a CRM helpful. It’s also helpful to set boundaries on the days/times you respond to people or when you work. I also keep a paper day planner and an electronic one to ensure I do not miss anything.”

What educational experiences helped when becoming an entrepreneur?

“I’ve taken several workshops for both business and photography. I continue to take them yearly because business changes often. Plus, working with a business coach or mentor has helped me so much.”
