It’s been a while as I’ve been not working on my site much while pregnant but I’m excited to bring back another blog in my Featuring Winston series! March’s Featuring Winston showcases Jewellery Unique. I had the privilege to sit down with the owners, Taleona and Kelvin Mayfield, last fall and hear all about their amazing business.
Meet the Owners
Let’s be honest, husband/wife teams don’t always work. However, Taleona and Kelvin not only make it work but their business is thriving due to their true partnership in every sense of the word. They are among the sweetest couple I’ve met, and it was such an honor to interview them!
Both Taleona and Kelvin have a passion for people and ministry. This is the driving force behind this dynamic duo and their business. As soon as you step into their shop you can see and feel this passion for both.
Giving back is a huge part of not just their business but who they are. They regularly collect and donate for the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission and the Salvation Army.
From Home to Storefront
Jewellery Unique is one of the success stories of taking a home-based business and turning it into a thriving storefront. The couple started the business out of their home in July 2011. They share, “The inspiration to start our business came from combining our love for people and Taleona’s passion for fashion, style, and one-of-a-kind accessories. We took our gifts, talents, passions and used those as a catalyst to start Jewellery Unique.”
The business grew enough to open a shop in Kernersville in 2012 where they stayed until 2016. From there the business continued to grow until they moved into their current location in downtown Winston-Salem in 2016. They recently celebrated the 10 year anniversary of their business. Today, they sell much more than jewelry; such as, gift boxes and baskets, purses, clothes, and much more!
Why Winston?
Taleona and Kelvin love the artistic community downtown Winston-Salem offers and knew it’d be the perfect spot for their shop. They love that there is a diverse mix of people from all walks of life in the area.
Additionally, they share that the Winston-Salem community has been incredibly supportive and welcoming of their business. They were fully embraced back in 2016 as a small business in the area and continue to be supported.
It should come as no surprise for this outgoing and friendly couple that while everyone enters as a customer into their shop, they leave and become part of their family. They love getting to know each customer and view each interaction as not a transaction but the beginning of a new relationship.
